Visit from Renfrewshire County

Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 September 2023

The Club has just experienced one of the greatest weekends in their history with a visit from the Scottish County Renfrewshire Under 25’s team and their parents and supporters.
On Saturday we hosted their Under 25 team of 4 rinks.
These young people were a credit to their organisation and their parents. They were great bowlers (ask Gordon Niven), superbly well mannered, enthusiastic, generous and fun to share the green with. The game ended 2-2 in rinks with BFGBC close winners on aggregate. The bar ran dry but reinforcements saved the day.  A great start to the weekend.
On Sunday we hosted their parents/supporters- otherwise known as the Legends! When you have to welcome and introduce four Past Renfrew County Presidents, in addition to three Lancashire PP of our own, you know you are in the presence of Bowling Royalty.
That was just the beginning of a memorable day. The game was played in great spirit with The Legends coming to us on a 23 game unbeaten run. However some of them had never played on an artificial green, plus having played at Heaton Park the day before, they struggled to get to grips with this new challenge and lost their unbeaten record. However they continued to be unbeaten in their generosity, their friendship, and their enthusiastic participation (even though I struggled to understand them much of the time).
The climax was the evening entertainment thanks to John Muldoon’s superb organisation. This included highly contested quizzes, Play your Cards Right, an unforgettable and hugely supported Karaoke, and some enthusiastically hilarious Scottish dancing! Also we had our own version of ‘Strictly’ with any passing female member at risk of being ‘auditioned ‘ in full view of us all. Well done to all our members who played their part in this display.
The bar again had to be restocked (thank you Graham) in order to keep the level of enjoyment at the highest level.
No one should have left early as we ended the evening at 10pm with an invitation to visit them in the coming year and everyone joined together in Auld Lang Syne before they departed to their coach.
None of this could have been achieved without the support of some of our members in particular. Thank you Chris for the raffle etc to Loretta and Moira for managing the bar, and Clare and her team for providing and serving everybody with 2 delicious meals on both days.
Thank you everybody. A lot of friends were made. All of us who were there will always talk about it with a smile on our lips.
Michael Parker

There will shortly be a slideshow of the photographs taken over the weekend when they are all collated.

Club Finals Weekend: Saturday 23/Sunday 24 September 2023.

The culmination of so much effort over the 2023 season.  The weather has been less kind than some previous years, so there were some inevitable postponements; thanks for your tolerance, but with the exception of the Hunt Cup which is being played on Tuesday 19 September, we finally got there. There is no catering on the day, so please bring your own.  Please come and support your fellow members; there should be some good bowling to watch.  Dress Code for Competitors & Markers: Whites, with club or white shirt.

Because of the logistics of so many members qualifying for multiple events it is not possible to change either the day or the time when games will be played.
